Fab Fashion in BOYFRIENDS AND GIRLFRIENDS (1987)

Boyfriends and Girlfriends Blu-ray - Emmanuelle Chaulet

Eric Rohmer’s L’Ami de mon amie (The English-translated title is Boyfriends and Girlfriends) tells the story of a group of young people living in the suburbs of Paris.

Blanche (Emmanuelle Chaulet), a down-to-earth office worker, befriends Léa (Sophie Renoir), who is a lively student. Blanche has just moved to the area and gets to know Léa’s boyfriend and friend. She falls for Léa’s friend but is awkward around him and doesn’t quite know what to say to him. But then Blanche begins to become more acquainted with Léa’s boyfriend, Fabien, and things change.

Although I enjoyed the story, my favorite part of the film is the wardrobe and beautiful lighting; it’s such a bright film, filled with many scenes of sunny days.

I want to document many of the outfits worn in the film by the main characters. We often see them wearing various shades of blue. Along with the color grading of the film, each outfit looks great.

I’m a huge fan of tucking blouses into pants and skirts, so I think that’s a big reason why I love the outfits so much. They all look so effortless, too.

Also, it’s worth it to take note of how the characters often compliment each other in what they wear.

Oh, and there’s so much denim in this film. Always a classic look.

Casual, cool looks. Blanche’s blue blazer might be my favorite wardrobe piece.

I can’t get over how cute this outfit is. That turquoise blouse tucked into light denim jeans…we love to see it.

There’s also some fabulous chunky knitwear…
Blanche is similarly dressed to Lea in the above screenshot, except in a bold red sweater. Fabien is lookin’ good too. His sweater looks so comfy.

Girl, yes. That blouse and those earrings are everything.

Blanche and Léa’s blouses look especially pretty up against that beautiful scenery.

This is like the perfect summer outfit. The yellow tank top, paired with the yellow belt, and light denim jeans is beyond adorable. The light colors look especially radiant against the light background colors of the film.

Yet another cute tucked-in look. The blouse/belt/skirt combo is so simple and pretty. I love the necklace, too.

Another effortless look. The pink shirt is so cute and makes the look pop.
